Day 1-3: Mfuwe – South Luangwa National Park

Arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport where you will be met and assisted through immigration and customs by our airport representatives. You will then proceed to the domestic departure terminal for your flight to Mfuwe Airport which is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. On arrival at Mfuwe Airport you will be met by a representative from Flat Dogs and driven to the Camp – which is approximately 1 hour. You will drive through Mfuwe Town which is a fascinating drive – giving you an insight into local life.
Flat Dogs is located just outside of the Park so easy access and situated on the Luangwa River. The camp is quite large and spread out, so you never get the sense of being crowded. They have a restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served – there are no fixed meal times and you are free to dine when you want. They also have a bar, swimming pool area and internet café. Depending your arrival time, you may have the chance to do an afternoon game drive/ night drive exploring the South Luangwa National Park with your guide and learning about the many different animals, birds, fauna and flora.
You will have the opportunity to explore the Luangwa’s many different species on game drives and walking safaris. Walking safaris are conducted by Professional guides and accompanied by an armed National Parks Scout. These are a fascinating, more detailed view of the park ecology and of the wildlife as well as a chance to dive more deeply into dung, or ultimately to track game on foot either using spoor or with a little help from birds and animals who “alarm” in the presence of predators. Walks usually last for three-four hours and are commonly taken in the morning when it’s cooler. During the day you can either relax by the pool or enjoy just relaxing in the gardens on the banks of the Luangwa River. Late afternoon you can go out on an afternoon game drive, continuing into a night drive, allowing you the chance to see the nocturnal animals of the Luangwa. You can also visit some of the local projects in the area – a local school and village and also the South Luangwa Conservation Society – please chat to the lodge should you wish to include a visit to one of these.
