Day 1 – 2: Nankoma Island –Senga Bay

Upon arrival at the Lilongwe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide, after greetings we will drive straight to Senga Bay – Salima for your 20 minutes Boat transfer to Nankoma Island. You will be accommodated at the Blue Zebra Lodge for the first two nights. The Lodge offers 8 exclusive tented en-suite chalets each overlooking the lake with some of crystal clear waters. The chalets are set in an unspoiled environment and guests are surrounded by nature and luxury. Guests are free to chill at the infinity pool, Kayak around the islands or enjoy a game of volleyball as part of the board package. The lodge also offers free use of snorkelling equipment to view the unique colourful fish that inhabit every inch of the coastline.

Day 3 – 4: Mulanje Mountains

Early morning breakfast; prepare to have a boat transfer to Senga Bay, upon arrival in Senga Bay you will be met by your guide and the journey to Mulanje beings. Your accommodation in Mulanje will be at Lujeri Tea Estate. Lujeri lodge is a converted old style colonial house and is a fantastic spot, with really nice friendly staff. A stay at Lujeri Lodge in Malawi gives you access to a network of fabulous walking trails around the estate and through the foothills of Mount Mulanje. You will find some truly stunning swimming spots on the estate, including the Blue Lagoon, Mbiya Pools, and Hydro along the Minunu Path. Whether you fancy a serious hike up the mountain or some easier walking around the farm, this is an absolutely fabulous place to live the life of a colonial tea planter for a few days.

Day 5 – 6: Zomba Plateau

Enjoy your last morning at the Lujeri Lodge. After breakfast, we will depart from towards Zomba Plateau. Estimated time of arrival in Zomba is around lunchtime, we will drive straight to the Zomba Forest Lodge, in a stunning location on Zomba Plateau. This is an inviting, charming lodge with 4 rooms (2 twins and 2 doubles, all en-suite) boasting a colorful and lush garden to explore; a real treat to walk around and bird watch.
The lodge lies in 20 acres of mixed woodland, varying from indigenous rainforest in the valley by the stream, to pine on the slopes and giant eucalyptus trees overhanging the garden and there are lots of little trails meandering through, perfect for those after a little wander. If you are after some more serious hiking, there are a number of trails from the lodge, including a couple that will take you up to the Plateau itself in 1.5 hours. There is also an immense variety of birds, including the rare white winged apalis, the crimson wing and the double-coloured forest sunbird feeding from the flowers mere inches from the veranda, a real treat for the eyes. For bird enthusiasts, there are plenty to keep you busy.

Day 7 – 8 Liwonde National Park

From the mountains it is now time to drive to Mvuu Camp in Liwonde National Park.
Located on the upper Shire River plain and covering an area of 580 square kilometers, this was one of the first reserves in Malawi. The landscape are quite varied and include mopane woodlands dominated by weeping trees, reed swamps and other marshland vegetation along the Shire River; there are the floodplain grasslands in the south, woodlands on all the hills, tall grass/tree savannahs along the narrow floodplains of seasonal streams, and small pockets of dry deciduous riverine thickets and semi-deciduous riverine forests. All of these landscapes host an incredible variety of species including hippo, crocodile, elephant, rhino, and a large quantity of antelope and many species of bird. The Mvuu Lodge and Camp are the only places where you can stay and they offer many activities such as boat and 4×4 safaris both day and night. On boating safaris during the day, it is quite easy to spot elephants and at night you can spot crocodiles and endemic birds. Walking safaris with expert guides are also available.

Day 9 – 11: Cape Maclear

After breakfast, get ready now to drive to Cape Maclear to the Kayak Africa reception offices. At 10:30am your the boat transfer will depart for the stunning Mumbo Island, which is approximately 45 minutes.
Mumbo Island is a deserted tropical island on the expansive waters of the Lake Malawi. With amazing underwater boulders, around 800 species of colorful cichlid fishes and placid, clear water, the National Park offers what many consider the best freshwater snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the world.

Day 12: Departure Lilongwe

After breakfast you will be transferred on a Boat to Cape Maclear. You will meet your guide and will then start driving back to Lilongwe International Airport for your flight back home.
