Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast you will meet your guide and depart to the Tarangire National Park. The National Park covers an area of 2600sq km, is crossed by the homonymous Tarangire River. The only source of water for wild animals during dry season, the Tarangire River creates the most diverse vegetation: a hilly landscape is dotted with vast numbers of Baobab trees, dense bush and high grasses. During the dry season thousands of animals like elephants, kudu, lions cheetahs and leopards migrate to the National Park to find water. This is the best season to visit the Tarangire.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Ngorongoro Crater)

Breakfast at the lodge, you will begin your day on a comfortable 4WD for a tour at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which includes the Crater. At the “Crater View Point” (2.216m of altitude) you can admire the most amazing and spectacular view and if the weather is clear you will enjoy a stunning view of the vast ‘caldera’. The inside of the crater is an amazing portrait of colours; deep greens and yellows contrast with the silver blue reflection of the sky in Lake Magadi, a soda lake at the bottom of the crater that is host to thousands of flamingos, not to mention all kinds of other wildlife (wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, antelopes, hippos, elephants and a small number of black rhinos) and their predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs. Lions can be somewhat easy to spot in the dry season; the leopards and cheetahs, on the other hand, are a bit more tricky to spot in any season. Picnic lunch before driving to your lodge for dinner and accommodation.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Ngorongoro crater) – Serengeti National Park

Breakfast at the lodge and hit the road destination Serengeti National Park; after leaving Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the road to the Serengeti is arid and wild and dotted with Masaai Villages in a very interesting landscape. Depending on the time, you will stop at Olduvai Gorge for a short visit to the little museum. The exhibits at the Olduvai Gorge Museum are centred around the paleoanthropological research and artifacts that has come from the surrounding area. The gorge in fact has played a key role in understanding of the history of humanity by providing clues dating from about 2.5 million years ago. Entrance the Serengeti from Naabi Hill Gate; not far from here you will stop close to a group of Kopjes, it is possible to climb on top of a hill and enjoy the incredible landscape on the Serengeti plains.
The Serengeti is what the Maasai call “the endless plain” and is probably the most beautiful safari you will experience in Tanzania. Picnic in one of the most fascinating African landscapes. After lunch you will continue your safari towards the tented camp, once you get there you will enjoy a bit of relaxing time before dinner at the tented restaurant.

As the aim of this itinerary is to enjoy the migration at its best, we will help you to select the right tented camp according to the migration movement, in the perfect location.

Day 5/ 6/ 7: Serengeti National Park (migration route)

Enjoy the best of the Serengeti and the migration. You can have your lunch at the selected camp or have a picnic lunch and enjoy a full day on safari, discovering this legendary park with its unending horizons and limitless plains.
The Serengeti extent for about 14.763 sq/km, it’s the biggest park of the country; this park hosts the biggest mammal migration in Africa moving each year around 2 million wildebeests, 1 million zebras, impala, gazelles for 800km. They migrate throughout the year, constantly seeking fresh gazing and better quality water. The Grumeti and Mara rivers are the hardest points of the migrating movement, each animal driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role on the inescapable cycle of life: a three week bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as 40km long columns plunge through crocodiles infested waters and hiding lions waiting for one wrong move. The precise timing of the Serengeti wildebeest migration is entirely dependent upon the rainfall patterns each year. The best time of the year is between November and July/ August with particular intensity between January and February, when the female wildebeests stops in the Ndutu Plains to give birth to their babies. The wildebeest migration continues moving northwards during the dry season from July/August till October showing the last part of the migration. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably, the most scintillating game viewing in Africa.
